London International Mime Festival

”                                                    “

Sorry, was just miming out that this weekend sees the start of the London International Mime Festival.  Did you get it?

Hmm, I’d better tell you about it then.

It starts on Saturday, January 15th – and there are all sorts of things to be getting involved with.

Not only are there lots of performances to go and see (click here for the listings and how to get tickets), but there are also workshops to have fun with.

Topics include ‘Creating Theatre and Performance’, ‘Introduction to Commedia for Performance’ – based on the old Italian mime shows, and ‘Clown Through Mask’.  Information on all of these – and others – can be found here.

The performances include mime, mask work, acrobatics, circus skills, animation and puppetry. Venues include Southbank Centre, Barbican, ICA, Roundhouse and Royal Opera House.

Ticket prices vary.  The festival runs until January 30th.

Real Food Market

Bored of Borough? Why not head to the Real Food Market this weekend and sample some snacks on the Southbank?

Fresh veg on offer at a food market

There are over 40 Real Food producers at the market, selling everything from hog roasts to chocolate – and everything is regional, seasonal and wholesome (yes, even the chocolate).

As well as the food stalls, there’ll be live cookery demos, talks and interactive events to get involved with.

It’s all happening on the Southbank, running this weekend 10am-6pm and the weekend of October 1-3, 12pm-6pm.

Bon appetite!

Underbelly Comedy

The Purple Cow

The Udderbelly comes alive

The Underbelly started in Edinburgh  at the Edinburgh Fringe – and it’s back for its second year in London on the Southbank.

Music, comedy and theatre, including shows from the likes of Alexei Sayle, Brendan Burns and smaller but equally as good comedians like Carl Donnelly and Andrew Maxwell’s Full Mooners – and a beatboxing show – are all on offer throughout the festival.

I went there last week to hang in the beer garden.  Drinks are reasonably priced and the garden is a nice place to catch the sun (if it’s out!).  You don’t need tickets to sit in the garden.

Shows are on right now and  run til July 18.

Ticket prices depend on the show –  for more information go to the Underbelly website.

Fairtrade Festival Fun

We’ve all seen Fairtrade bananas, coffee…even soft drinks.

Now there’s a festival to promote all of the Fairtrade good available – and it includes music, films, football-themed goods – and of course food!

Over the weekend you’ll get the chance to try your hand at chocolate tasting, wine tasting as well as watch film screenings, all for free.

It’s all happening at Potter’s Field, on the South Bank next to Tower Bridge, and finishes on Sunday.
